Time for tax relief at the pumps?

Submitted to Power Up Café

Did you know that when you spend $100 for gas, you’re paying about $30 in taxes?

Depending on the province, taxes include sales tax, federal excise tax, provincial excise tax, carbon taxes (which increase April 1, 2020) and transit taxes in some cities. Plus, you pay GST on all these taxes – a tax on tax that costs the average Canadian driver an extra 3.3 cents per litre.

While governments benefit as gasoline prices surge, Canadians could benefit from tax relief at the pumps.

What do you think?
