Time to launch a national caregiver strategy?

Submitted to Seniors care

One in four Canadians care for a family member or loved one with a long-term health condition, disability or age-related needs. These caregivers are mostly women, and most are unpaid! Unpaid caregivers save us billions of dollars each year in health costs. The unsung heroes of our health system!

Providing care to a family member or friend can be demanding, and profoundly affect emotional, mental, financial and physical well-being. To support family caregivers, advocates across Canada say we urgently need a national caregiver strategy -- a national strategy that acknowledges caregivers, protects their rights, and funds programs and services to support them.
